My first post entitled “My first post (please ignore)” was created exactly 1 year ago today. In it I ranted about the number of single post bloggers that I had found on MSDN… I told you, dear reader, to ignore me until I had at least 2 posts… well, 219 posts later we are here.
There were a number of factors that caused me to start blogging (I had been reading blogs for sometime and had considered it as a way to get involved in the community and maybe get one of those MVP awards — something I’ve wanted for awhile). Anyway, I remember that I decided to do so after an email to Joe Healy — the (then) Florida Developer Evangelist… I had been complaining about the fact that the content at Dev Days was less than stellar (I had taken the Smart Client track). I had revealed to him that I had a degree in Theology… he told me that I was the first Developer Theologian he had ever met… I had a gimmick and I decided that maybe I could help MS out as sort of a conscience…
Recently, I’ve been thinking about my moniker and pondering a name change (I thought about Dev Philosopher)… After much thought, I’ve decided that Dev Theologian is who I am and will continue to be. I’ve also decided why it fits. I know that I rant a lot… my Hispanic friends have taken to calling me H.B.E. (“Hombre Blanco Enojado” aka “Angry White Man”). My personality type makes me do it… I’ve forgotten the 4 letters for my personality (‘I’ and ‘J’ are in it), but basically I have a strong sense of right and wrong… when things are wrong, my idealism is so strong that I feel I must do something to right the world… I find myself constantly tilting windmills like Don Quixote. So I consider myself a moral compass of sorts… Look at some of the things I have ranted about… Futuritis… the VB6 petition (and the wrongness of it)… GNU Public License… just to name a few. It’s also why I have taken up various causes like OOP for Beginners (and in the future running as a non-admin)… I am the Dev Theologian… Along the way I guess I must have done something right otherwise the CodeBetter guys wouldn’t have offered to let me join…
