Rediscovering Jason Haley

Via Greg's Cool Thing: Interested in a very cool link blogger? An outstanding human feed aggregator? Then make sure you check out Jason Haley’s blog. His daily Interesting Finds posts are officially very cool... This was sort of a rediscovering of Jason Haley as I'd read his blog back when he was at weblogs.asp.net. Jason points to lots of stuff - I clicked through to a couple of Jason's links and found one particularly re-post-worthy called "Requirements Gathering - Interviewing the Right People". TechCrunch Blogs About Maxthon

Ouriel Ohayon from TechCrunch posts that Maxthon V2 is nearing beta, and also points to the Maxthon blog. I use Maxthon (formerly MyIE, MyIE2) as my browser, and have been very happy with it since first trying it back in mid 2002. The wife even likes it, which is a good test :-) And there's no way either of us could go back to using the default IE - I like my blocked ads, tabbed browsing, ease of opening new windows, etc. I can't enter the quasi-religious debate that is browser preferences, because I've only tried Firefox a couple of times, and...

May 2006 SQL Server Melbourne SIG - Greg Linwood

This month's Melbourne SQL Server User Group meeting was titled "'Out of the box' performance improvements from a SQL Server 2005 upgrade", and was presented by Greg Linwood, the user group leader. Greg 's talk was pitched at DBA's and to some degree developers, and he spent some time talking about 3rd-party applications and possible performance bottlenecks, and how to address these when you don't have access to the application's code. The session was well attended and Greg did a good job. He had a couple of prizes which he gave out to audience members who answered a hard question or asked him a hard...

Code Camp Oz 2006 Review Part 3 - Summary

I reviewed Code Camp Oz 2006 here and the presentations and speakers here. This year's Code Camp was fantastic. The social events that surrounded it - shared lunch, sponsored by Microsoft, dinners out, and the informal wine and cheese tasting - really added to the "community" feel. It was good to catch up with people I'd met last year and even meet some new people.  The content was a balance between current, relevant stuff and previews of upcoming technologies, presented by knowledgeable and professional local developers. In short, it was well worth attending. I also appreciate the way my boss supported...

OT: Eric Sink Installs Vista

He he. Eric Sink blogs about installing Vista and has some problems. Here's his quotable quote: On the day I installed Vista I bought a loaf of bread and it lasted longer than the OS did. :-) Tags: humor, Eric Sink

Code Camp Oz 2006 Review Part 2 - Presentations

This follows on from my Code Camp Oz 2006 Review Part 1. The presenters at Code Camp Oz 2006 had a range of styles, and the sessions felt more like conversations than lectures - but with people who definitely had something to "show and tell". Most of the presenters were very knowledgeable about their respective subject areas and most injected their sessions with a healthy dose of humour (I reckon that helps aid "mental digestion", especially when you're listening and talking tech for 8 straight hours, two days in a row!) Whatever Code Camps are elsewhere around the world, the humour,...
